Daily Deliverance

2 Kings 19:14-19

14And Hezekiah received the letter of the hand of the messengers, and read it: and Hezekiah went up into the house of the LORD, and spread it before the LORD.

15And Hezekiah prayed before the LORD, and said, O LORD God of Israel, which dwellest between the cherubims, thou art the God, even thou alone, of all the kingdoms of the earth; thou hast made heaven and earth.

16LORD, bow down thine ear, and hear: open, LORD, thine eyes, and see: and hear the words of Sennacherib, which hath sent him to reproach the living God.

17Of a truth, LORD, the kings of Assyria have destroyed the nations and their lands,

18And have cast their gods into the fire: for they were no gods, but the work of men's hands, wood and stone: therefore they have destroyed them.

19Now therefore, O LORD our God, I beseech thee, save thou us out of his hand, that all the kingdoms of the earth may know that thou art the LORD God, even thou only.

This is one of my favorite passages in the bible. King Hezekiah pours his heart out to the Lord. In verse 35 we see the Lord's answer.

35And it came to pass that night, that the angel of the LORD went out, and smote in the camp of the Assyrians an hundred fourscore and five thousand: and when they arose early in the morning, behold, they were all dead corpses. (185,000)

The Lord is near to all who call on him, to all who call on him in truth - Psalm 145:18.

Hezekiah called on the Lord, but he also called on the Lord "in truth". His petition was for the Lord's name and the Lord's kingdom. V19 "Now therefore, O LORD our God, I beseech thee, save thou us out of his hand, that all the kingdoms of the earth may know that thou art the LORD God, even thou only." The Lord answered for his name's sake.

In living for the kingdom of God we need the same "deliverance" from God each day. Just as Hezekiah was helpless to answer the situation we are helpless to meet the day. We need grace and the Holy Spirit.

We need to have our heart aligned with God's kingdom. We need to get before the Lord and ask for his help and then he will answer. He will provide whatever we need.

"God has somehow placed into the Christian's insides a special something, that extra inner reservoir of power that is more than a match for the stuff life throws at us. When in operation, phenomenal accomplishments are achieved, sometimes even miraculous."

Awesome Weekend

It was a long weekend because of Martin Luther King Jr. Day. I made the most of it.

It started about 10pm Friday night when I finished up report card comments and lesson plans for this week. It felt good to be free 'till Tuesday.

Saturday was great. I got to sleep in and play some basketball. In the afternoon JoJo came down from CIU (Columbia International University) to "pick up her hammock." We headed downtown G-vegas (Greenville) w/ Aironius and Ashlynnety. Our charming tour guide Thuhlonious led the way and we hit the highlights while sipping bubble tea from Ocha. After checking out the sites went Underground for some Coffee and Rook in the Red Room. It was the best of times and... yeah, it was some good times.

Sunday, I was greatly encouraged at church. The choir sang "Living by Faith." (see below) Aaron and I "slotted" the tenor line. It's been running through my head ever since but that's not a bad thing. Dr. Vogt gave an outstanding call to worship on Galatians 5:16. Between that, the choirs song, special music (Ben playing Holy, Holy, Holy on the violin) it was already a fantastic service before we even got to the sermon. That's what Dad said too when he finally got up to preach at quarter till. It was a great day.

Monday, as I mentioned before was MLK Jr. Day. It gave me a chance to run some errands and catch up on some things since we didn't have school. I need to get some work done on my car so we looked into that. I am in the market for something a little more... "reliable" ...than my '88 Camry. I spent some time discussing some options with Dad and we down to Lehman's to see what he had. We had a great time of fellowship together.

The best part about Monday was going over to EI and stripping the tires and stereo system from Loper's car. Muchas gracias a Marcos, Noé, Dan y cualquier otro que pasó por aquí. A bunch of guys jumped in to help out and we had a blast.

Monday was also kinda bittersweet 'cause Kristi and Nik left for Iowa. We're gonna miss you sis.

So Tuesday I was back at work...but at least BRCA won their basketball game. That's two in a row. School's out and so am I.

Living by Faith
I care not today what the morrow may bring,
If shadows or sunshine or rain.
The Lord I know ruleth o'er everything,
And all my worry is vain.
Living by faith (yes, living by faith),
In Jesus above (in Jesus above),
Trusting confiding in His great love
(yes, in His great love);
Safe from all harm (safe from all harm)
In His sheltering arms (his sheltering arms)
I'm living by faith (I'm living by faith)
and feel no alarm (feel no alarm)...

John 15

1 I am the true vine, and my Father is the husbandman.
2 Every branch in me that beareth not fruit he taketh away: and every branch that beareth fruit, he purgeth it, that it may bring forth more fruit.
3 Now ye are clean through the word which I have spoken unto you.
4 Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, except it abide in the vine; no more can ye, except ye abide in me.
5 I am the vine, ye are the branches: He that abideth in me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit: for without me ye can do nothing.
6 If a man abide not in me, he is cast forth as a branch, and is withered; and men gather them, and cast them into the fire, and they are burned.
7 If ye abide in me, and my words abide in you, ye shall ask what ye will, and it shall be done unto you.
8 Herein is my Father glorified, that ye bear much fruit; so shall ye be my disciples.
9 As the Father hath loved me, so have I loved you: continue ye in my love.
10 If ye keep my commandments, ye shall abide in my love; even as I have kept my Father's commandments, and abide in his love.
11 These things have I spoken unto you, that my joy might remain in you, and that your joy might be full.
12 This is my commandment, That ye love one another, as I have loved you.
13 Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends.
14 Ye are my friends, if ye do whatsoever I command you.
15 Henceforth I call you not servants; for the servant knoweth not what his lord doeth: but I have called you friends; for all things that I have heard of my Father I have made known unto you.
16 Ye have not chosen me, but I have chosen you, and ordained you, that ye should go and bring forth fruit, and that your fruit should remain: that whatsoever ye shall ask of the Father in my name, he may give it you.
17 These things I command you, that ye love one another.
18 If the world hate you, ye know that it hated me before it hated you.
19 If ye were of the world, the world would love his own: but because ye are not of the world, but I have chosen you out of the world, therefore the world hateth you.
20 Remember the word that I said unto you, The servant is not greater than his lord. If they have persecuted me, they will also persecute you; if they have kept my saying, they will keep yours also.
21 But all these things will they do unto you for my name's sake, because they know not him that sent me.
22 If I had not come and spoken unto them, they had not had sin: but now they have no cloak for their sin.
23 He that hateth me hateth my Father also.
24 If I had not done among them the works which none other man did, they had not had sin: but now have they both seen and hated both me and my Father.
25 But this cometh to pass, that the word might be fulfilled that is written in their law, They hated me without a cause.
26 But when the Comforter is come, whom I will send unto you from the Father, even the Spirit of truth, which proceedeth from the Father, he shall testify of me:
27 And ye also shall bear witness, because ye have been with me from the beginning.

In my '88 Toyota Camry...

Greenville SC, home of Bob Jones University and the proverbial Buckle of the Bible Belt, is blessed with several excellent radio stations. I have presets set to 9.01 National Public Radio, Unique FM 94.5 (The Bob Jones Station), and 91.1 the Bible Broadcasting Network (http://www.bbnradio.org/).

It was on the latter that I heard this song on my way to work this morning.

Worthy is the Lamb
(I was unable to find the author and composer)
Performed by: Men of Calvary

Praise Him, praise Him, praise evermore
For what is found worthy Jesus Christ the Lord
The Lion of Judah, The Saviour, The Great I Am
Praise Him! Praise Him!
Behold the Lamb

Worthy is the Lamb Worthy is the Lamb
Worthy is the Lamb that was slain
Worthy is the Lamb

Worthy to receive power and riches
Worthy to receive wisdom and strength
Worthy of honor, and glory, and blessing

Worthy is the Lamb
Worthy is the Lamb

I had a great worship service all by myself in my '87 Toyota Corrola. I love those special moments when God seems very near. Of course he is always near and promises never to leave us or forsake but sometimes we feel his presence more than others.

At a Youth Prayer Advance years ago, Kevin Brownfield asked us, the campers, if we ever felt like God was a million miles away. Several campers, myself included, were brave enough to admit that they felt like this. I will always remember what he said next."God didn't move."

Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today and forever. He doesn't move or change. He is near to those who call on him (Psalm 145:18). It seems like such a simple obvious truth, but those truths are the best; especially when we see them at work in our lives.

Wednesday, January 13

It is the wind of God that dries my vain regretful tears,
Until with braver thoughts shall rise the purer, brighter years;
If cast on shores of selfish ease or pleasure I should be;
Lord, let me feel Thy freshening breeze, and I’ll put back to sea.

Guppies are cuddly...guppies are cute

The Guppy
by Ogden Nash

Whales have calves,
Cats have kittens,
Bears have cubs,
Bats have bittens,
Swans have cygnets,
Seals have puppies,
But guppies just have little guppies.

Cold Snap *

It's really something to get up at 6am and drive to work in 20 degree weather.

It's fun to bundle up and then head out into the unfriendly cold. Its amazing how much just getting out of the icy wind into the frozen car helps. Still, the nice warm air trapped under multiple layers slowly escapes.

It's interesting how similar that is to our quiet time. Ignore the pressures or problems waiting to pounce on you, and spend time in fellowship with the Lord. It's kinda like bundling up against the cold. In the Lord, you are deeply loved, fully pleasing, totally accepted and absolutely complete. As you head into your day you are going to face some icy blasts from the less than perfect world we live in. If you are bundled up in the Lord you will be handle the chill. Just don't go to0 long without warming up again.

I don't often spend more than half an hour in prayer at one time, but I never go more than half an hour without praying.

011110
Six symmetrical digits.
In binary the number 011110 represents: 16 + 8 + 4 + 2 So, the decimal value is: 30
Really the only reason I put that there is because today is...
Monday, 01/11/10.

I figured it would be good to include the date in the first entry of my blog. It's January 11th 2010, time for new goals.
I plan to share some insights from spending time with the Lord here.
I want to keep up with people better too. So if you want to see what's up with me, hopefully you can check this blog.

A lot of times I pick a verse to keep throughout the year around this time. I haven't picked one yet but I'm thinking about it. My verse for the school year is Psalm 145:18 "The Lord is near to all who call on him

That's all for now. :)
